Let’s get real. Your dad does not want a picture frame or a gift basket for Father’s Day once you are over the age of 10. Ties are overrated, and a homemade card just isn’t going to cut it. He wants something personal and guy-friendly. Using social media is a great way to pick out the perfect present for his special day.
See What Is Trending: Twitter is a great way to gain information. Look at what is trending today that is related to Father’s Day. Better yet, why not post it yourself. #fathersday is sure to be popular with Tweeters, so post something along the lines of “need #fathersday ideas” and you are sure to receive a few responses. Try tagging things your dad likes, such as @CallawayGolf. This company will typically send out a prompt response.
Check-In To It: Once checking in on FourSquare, a list of nearby specials will pop up on the bottom of the screen. These specials range from 10% off on your 4th check in, or a free drink. These can clue you in on some places to take your dad out for dinner, or stores to run into for a gift. Radio Shack is always running deals for those who check-in to their locations. One offer running now is 30% off your entire purchase, which could be that extra help needed to buy the new phone your dad has been eyeing.
Gilt: Gilt Group has added many new discounts to their already large inventory. They launched with only women’s retail, but have since added men’s, children, home, gifts, and jetsetter tabs. The best place to find a gift for dad is under the Gift tab. Currently the tab includes gifts for the stylish man, gifts for leisure lovers, and dad deserves a vacation. These items are all on sale and offer ideas that you may not have thought of, such as a trip to Africa or a set of beer glasses.
Blog It: Since most people trust the advice of the people around them rather then advertisements, why not check out a blog or two. MyFathersDayBlog.com has a whole post about the essential gifts for new dads, while CoolStuffForDads.com has each post dedicated to a unique gift. They have everything from a wind turbine to a custom bobble head. Try thinking outside the box to find something you dad might not already have, and blogs are a great way of exploring new ideas.
Stumble Him: Stumble Upon has become a great tool to cure boredom, but it can also be used to find great gift ideas. Try changing your interests to those of your dad, such as golf and cigars. When you “stumble” these interests, websites pertaining to these subjects will appear. Shopping websites show up all the time that have to do with my interests, so why would your dad’s interests be any different?
