Friday Five: Tips for Keeping Up with Facebook’s Changes

Are you struggling to manage your Facebook brand page with the constant changes that have been happening? Don’t fear; you are not the only one. Many people are feeling lost on this social platform due to how it is constantly evolving and changing. Here are some tips and tricks to make your brand’s profile page more attractive, show off featured “Likes,” and manage how people message you. Hopefully these tips will make the world of Facebook a little less confusing.

  1. Target Posts to Specific Locations and Languages

It is extremely important that your message reaches all potential clients, especially if you are an international brand, which is why being able to target specific locations and languages is a great tool. When you create a new post, click on the Public icon, which will allow you to select Target by: Location/Language. This gives you options to make the post visible to the specific group of clients you are trying to target.

  1. Pin Posts to the Top of Your Profile

Do you ever get frustrated when you post something important to your profile and it gets lost on your page? Finally there is a solution! You can “pin” a recent post to the top of your profile, which allows you to highlight the content you want people to see first. To do this, go to the post you want to promote and click on the Pencil icon on the top-right, then select Pin to Top. The post you “pin” will remain at the top of your timeline for seven days or until you pin another post.

  1. Reposition Photos

We all have had it happen to us: we post a picture to Facebook and the way it uploads onto our timeline cuts off half of our face. Have no fear because we have the solution for you. Click the Pencil icon on a post, select the Reposition Photo option, and then move the image around within the frame until you are happy with how it looks. This very simple solution will ensure that every picture you post looks just as good as it truly is.

  1. Turn Off Messaging

The new ability that allows people to message brands is very useful, but if it’s not relevant to your page there is a way to disable it. Go to Edit Page on the Admin Panel at the top of your display and then select Update Info and Manage Permissions. Look for the Message option; if you want to remove the messaging function uncheck the box next to Show “Message” Button on Your Brand. Once you disable this you will not be able to receive messages to your brand page from people.

  1. Edit Your Favorites Boxes

Do you want other boxes to appear beneath your cover photo? There is now a way to change the order or add other boxes. Click on the down arrow that appears to the right of the boxes to see the edit options. The Photo box stays in place, but the others will either display a Pencil icon or a Plus sign. Click on these icons to either move the boxes around or add more apps to your favorites section.
