The past couple of weeks we have taken a look at how large successful businesses are doing social media and how it could be improved. We’ve picked and prodded, while offering up creative solutions to their marketing via the interwebs. Today we’re mixing it up. Time to give credit to someone who is perfectly utilizing each platform they’ve undertaken. We give you Conan O’Brien and Conan O’Brien Presents Team Coco.
Twitter and Facebook essentially saved Conan’s career once it started to unravel in front of everyone watching NBC. Within days of the announcement that Conan was potentially getting the boot from his coveted time slot, campaigns had begun. Die-hard fans took the nickname Coco that had been Tom Hank’s term of endearment for the quirky red head. Graphics were whipped up and Facebook pages by the name of Team Conan and I’m With Coco started making a buzz. Since then Conan O’Brien Presents: Team Coco has taken over the Facebook platforms. It is now the show’s official Facebook Page and a playground for his One Million plus fans.
Then there’s his personal Twitter, the show’s App for Smartphones, YouTube channel, GetGlue stickers, Tumblr blog, and FourSquare check ins. We have yet to see someone embrace Social Media in this way while maintaining a consistent voice, excited following, and creative campaigns. This is what we love about Conan.
- It’s Personal
- Conan and his stellar team have come up with hilarious campaigns to engage their fan base and rack in the laughs. In October, in the honor of Halloween, Conan asked his fans to Conanize their costumes. Which essentially meant sticking a cut out of Conan’s face on your face to make it appear that these often times disturbing costumes were actually being worn by Conan.
Aside from these goofy endeavors there is also Fan Friday. This simply reads Conan O’Brien Presents: Team Coco : Oh fun! It’s Fan Friday! Put your comment on this post to be in the running to be our LUCKY FAN!!! Who will it be!?
Oh, and when you follow him on Tumblr, a personal welcome message appears at the top of your dashboard.
Twitter Bio
Most recently, Conan called upon his millions of fans to create a new Twitter bio for his profile. It previously read, “I had a show. Then I had a different show. Now I have a Twitter account,” which no longer applied due to the success of his current show on TBS. The winning 140 characters or less bio? The voice of the people. Sorry, people.
- Viral videos
- For those who don’t have time to watch his show, want to re-live the laugh out loud moments, or just can’t get enough of that awkward lanky gait, there’s the YouTube page. One of their recent contests called for fans to submit videos in response to why they deserved to eat Valentine’s Dinner on Conan’s show. Here are the 118 responses.
- Live sessions
- Every Friday a livestream is posted offering a look at the happenings around the office. Sounds boring? It’s not. They fill the time with clever and sometimes questionable bits, put on by the Conan minions. While watching it through their Facebook page, fans are also encouraged to join in the conversation occurring below the stream. Sound confusing? Check it out.
- Strong and unapologetic voice
- Read his personal Twitter, or his checkin’s on FourSquare. He’s funny, and never disappoints with short and up to date quips. It’s refreshing and confident. It’s easy to see his team enjoys the work they are doing and it is never lacking creativity or that Conan whit.
