Friday Five: How to Use Social Media Restaurant Edition

Everyone knows that restaurants serve food. They are the reigning businesses of the food industry, reaching the mouths of practically every person on this planet. So how does one stand apart from the other? What keeps customers coming back for more?

Here are a few helpful hints on how to use your Social Media platforms to ensure satisfied customers.

  1. Facebook

If you don’t have one, get one. It is the most direct way to hit your client base and create a lasting impression. There are key things to remember when creating a Facebook presence

  • It must be a Facebook Business Page, not a personal page.
  • Create posts that people care about, create a voice, post about things going on in the industry outside your restaurant.
  • Create a Landing Page that advertises a special or entices them to simply like your page. Eye-catching with a purpose should be your goal.

Foursquare

What is this mysterious thing called foursquare that keeps popping up in conversation? Well it is one of the most useful tools a restaurant can use to catch customers with Smartphones. When a customer checks in to your restaurant or a restaurant nearby specials can pop up instantly. For example, if someone checks in to a rival restaurant across the street you can have a special sent to them that says “Head across the street and receive a free drink!”  Hello crowded bar.

Twitter

This is a great way to hear feedback and reviews separate from Food and Wine Magazine. Customers want to be heard and twitter offers a great way for them to tap into restaurants they care about. Create a twitter, post it on your website, follow those in your area and watch the followers multiply.  Begin listening to what people are saying.  Soon when Sam has a great steak at your restaurant you will know about it and be able to respond creating a personal connection that will last.

Blogs

Blogs aren’t just for families to post too much information about their vacation to North Carolina. It’s time for restaurants to jump on the bandwagon. Whether it’s Tumblr, WordPress, or Blogger find the blog that fits your voice and creative vision. Make sure you are talking about important information that your followers want to hear. Starbucks does an excellent job at connecting and making sure customers care about what they have to say.

Smartphone Apps

As hard as it is to believe, you can create an application for Smartphones. It can allow customers to make reservations, view a menu, order ahead, see specials, and contact you. As simple as it sounds a huge impression will be made.
