Today’s Most Valued Food Critic: You.

I have a challenge for you. Find at least one person who does not either love food or have a Twitter or Facebook account. Guaranteed you will find someone who has an insane passion for either food or technology. Today technology is constantly being shoved down our throats, so why not use that to shove some delicious food down your throat. Businesses have their own social media pages that allow the general public to tap into their favorite restaurants or even discover a new place a friend suggested. Not only are we now able to hear a one-sided, self promoting point of view, but also the voices of those who have had their own personal dining experiences.

Praises and complaints quickly reach customers and restaurant owners allowing for immediate response, sometimes even while the customer is still eating. What was once heard through the grapevine now has a direct hit.  Each person is connected to his or her dining experience, and a personal connection is made between costumers, chefs, owners, and potential new diners.

Chipotle is a multi-city chain restaurant dedicated to healthier fast food, as well as their Twitter account. Daily, their team personally responds to costumers’ comments, suggestions, complaints, or reviews.  For example, one devoted costumer tweeted that her life would be better if Chipotle served tofu; to which Chipotle quickly responded by saying that they had been working on a vegan protein to be brought into stores. This immediate, personal, and constructive platform allows for an improved business as well as a stronger connection to those being served.  Before you go out to eat this weekend, sign into your Twitter account and search restaurants you were considering, and you may find exactly what you have been looking for, even a new favorite meal.
