Unless you’ve been living under a rock or just don’t have Internet access, you know that yesterday Mark Zuckerberg unveiled drastic changes to Facebook at f8. These new changes will go live next week for all users. The biggest announcement is the release of the new profile page called the “Timeline”. The Timeline will completely shake up Facebook as we know it. Only developers are allowed to access it now but luckily, I had the ability to access it and explain it to all of you.
The first thing that you’ll notice is that your picture is smaller now and you have a large cover picture, which is supposed to be a unique representation of yourself.
You can see that the cover picture encompasses the top and the profile picture is in the bottom left hand corner.
Under that are your name and then your information.
Another feature of the Timeline is that it knows when you joined Facebook and includes all statuses that you ever posted. Also, Facebook calculates how many friends you made in a specific year and how many things you liked. This new timeline is a virtual scrapbook of your life in all its ups and downs.
The Timeline is not the only drastic change to Facebook. Another major change is now your news updates will be in a ticker in the upper right corner.
A controversial change that will occur is that once you allow an app to share information it will never ask you again. This means your information will be shared every time you use a specific app. This seems as though it will become a point of contention due to the recent privacy changes.
Let us know what you think about the new Facebook once you have a chance to check it out!
