Smartphone Users are Checking In

Statistics are always fun…. Ok maybe not. But when it has to do with Social Media we jump at the chance to absorb these numbers. Today Mobile Marketer released:

“A new study finds that only one in five smartphone owners access check-in services from their mobile devices.”

Notice something a little strange? ONLY one in five!? That might be a sad statistic if we were talking about Super Bowl attendance, however this is in reference to a recent addition in the budding sphere of social media, making 20% a pretty big deal.

Consider the restaurant business. Most start-up restaurants need enough financial resources to make it through one year without making extra revenue. Imagine a start-up restaurant making 20% back at the end of a year. Keep in mind this is referring to an industry that has been part of our daily lives for hundreds of years.  Facebook Places, FourSquare, Gowalla, and other check-in services are babies when compared to other industries, and require some perspective when releasing statistics that are deceptively small.

How often do you Check-in?
